2018 Celebration of Writing and Literacy

The 2018 Celebration of Writing and Literacy focused on teacher research and knowledge. Featured speakers included James Forman, Jr., Pulitzer Prize Winning Author, Locking Up Our Own and Matt Kay, Science Leadership Academy Teacher, Not Light, But Fire.

Our featured workshops were Reading is Writing: Student Success through “Kid Writing”; Poetry Inside Out: The Art of Translation; Teaching with Primary Sources: Inquiries from Summer Institute; Partnering with Youth and Families: Action through Literacy, led by Penn GSE author Gerald Campano and María Paula Ghiso; and Penn Literacy Network: Resilience and Literacy

2017 Celebration of Writing and Literacy

The theme of the 2017 Celebration of Writing and Literacy was Teacher Research and Knowledge: A Celebration of Writing and Literacy. The conference was hosted in partnership with the Teachers Institute of Philadelphia (TIP), Mighty Writers, and Penn GSE's Reading/Writing/Literacy and Teacher Education programs.

The keynote speakers were Diane Wood of Towson University and the Maryland Writing Project Teacher Consultants. The featured workshops and roundtables were Comic Book Madness; Arts Plus Literacy: Exploring Possibilities for Collaboration; Kid Writing: Getting Started on the Road to Literacy; and Innovation in Action: High School Makerspaces

PhilWP's 30th anniversary reception was held on September 15, 2016. The event celebrated our past and looked forward to our future. The event provided an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones while enjoying food, drinks and spectacular entertainment!
