At the Philadelphia Writing Project, we believe it takes a community to build the literacy and writing skills that will serve Philadelphia’s children throughout their educational paths and future careers. Positive change comes through communities who are involved in shaping the future. Here are four great reasons to support writing in the Philadelphia community:

  • Writing is complex
  • Writing is a critical tool for learning and social justice
  • Writing is central to learning in all disciplines
  • Writing is essential throughout a child’s education and career

The Philadelphia Writing Program is committed to improving student writing and learning in classrooms from kindergarten through universities. How do we do it? Through teachers teaching teachers.

A site of the National Writing Project, PhilWP is a non-profit network of over 800 professional educators who work with teachers and other educators to explore literacy, writing, teaching, and learning in their classrooms and schools. We know that teachers are the best teachers of teachers. Since our start in 1986, we see the results year after year, as our work impacts thousands of students in the Greater Philadelphia region.
