THE PHILADELPHIA WRITING PROJECT

Kid Writing is designed to accelerate the reading and writing skills of young learners through structured activities that help teachers individualize instruction and develop students’ phonics, spelling, and writing skills.

Our work is grounded in Kid Writing in the 21st Century: A Systematic Approach to Phonics, Spelling, and Writing Workshop by Feldgus, Cardonick, and Gentry, 2017. Developed by PhilWP Teacher Consultants Eileen Feldgus and Isabel Cardonick, the program emphasizes teacher professional development in tandem with opportunities for parents to actively support the writing of kindergarten and first grade students at home and at school.

To see Kid Writing in action, view our video featuring students, teachers, and parents from Willard and Sheridan Elementary Schools. This work was made possible with the generous support of the William Penn Foundation.
